Write a Tutorial
Want to submit a tutorial to NETTUTS? We’ll pay US$150 p/tutorial published, and you’ll get to help your fellow web developers and designers!
What to Write About?
We are looking for extensive tutorials on these subjects:
- HTML / CSS technique
- jQuery or similar libraries
- Flash / Actionscript 2 / Actionscript 3
- CMS’s - Wordpress, Expression Engine, Joomla, etc
- We may be looking for simpler PHP or Ruby on Rails tutorials soon as well.
We prefer more complete, practical and extensive tutorials. For example a tutorial demonstrating a jQuery effect applied to a menu complete with some attractive CSS styling would be prefered to a simple demonstration of a sliding effect in jQuery. Similarly it’d be better to have a "How to build a simple Joomla template" than "Add Categories to your Joomla Template" tutorial. Having said that if the effect is really great, or important, or useful then we’d be interested!
You must also fulfill the following criteria:
- You must send in your ALREADY WRITTEN tutorial. Please note not every tutorial will be accepted.
- Your tutorial must be your original work and not published elsewhere.
- You consent to the tutorial appearing exclusively on NETTUTS for a period of 9 months (after which you may publish it elsewhere as well if you wish).
- You must have a PayPal account for us to pay you, this fee will be paid within 2 weeks of publication
- You will need to format your tutorial as per the format described below.
- Your tutorial may be edited prior to publishing.
- If your submission is a Flash submission, you consent that the source FLA file may be used in a premium membership section of NETTUTS or yet to be released flash only tutorials site, in a similar manner to the current PSDTUTS Plus membership. And that if this happens you will not receive any extra compensation from membership sales.
How to Format your Tutorial
Tutorials should be formatted in a series of steps. Each step should have either an image or code snippet involved. If you are using code snippets, do the following:
- Wrap the code snippet in <pre></pre> tags
- Replace all < characters with < - this will help render the page
You should use this Tutorial Template and ensure that any images you use are less than 600px wide.
Downloadable & Preview Files
Most tutorials will have a set of files to demonstrate the effect. Place these files in a folder inside your zip. If the files are a site, CMS theme or something else large, try to make sure everything is neatly organised and has a read me file.
If you are submitting a Flash tutorial, please note that in the future we may place FLA source files into a premium membership section of the site, and that you would not receive any further recompense from the membership sales. (Note that this is how PSDTUTS works currently and at some point we’ll be looking to replicate the model)
Please note, not all tutorials will be accepted.
We only accept tutorials that match the site’s standards of both writing and tutorial content. If your tutorial is accepted, payment of US$150 will be made within 2 weeks after your tutorial has been posted on NETTUTS. Please note that if we gain evidence in this time that the tutorial or source images used in the tutorial have been plagiarized we will take the tutorial off the site and payment will not be made.
